Reporting Tip #2
Even if you don’t have all of your reporting done, write as much of your story as you can. Not only does this save you time so you don’t have to scramble later, but when you’ve got “I can’t write a decent sentence” syndrome, you’ll already be off to a good start. Go in later and fill in what you were missing and update information if necessary.
Example: I had the luxury of having more time on a story about an upcoming meeting about a very technical issue having to do with energy (I’m talking kilowatt hours, mega watts, etc.), and I had forgotten that I wrote more than half of the story last week. When I reopened the story I already had all the technical stuff written and only had to spend about 30-45 minutes completing the story. Ta-da! Like magic.
